Emissions & Energy Efficiency

Energy-Efficiency

Traditional facility systems—such as outdated air conditioning units and conventional lighting—consume high amounts of electricity, rely on harmful refrigerants, and generate excess waste through frequent maintenance and replacements. These inefficiencies contribute to increased carbon emissions and environmental degradation.

To address these issues, Intermovers has implemented a two-fold energy efficiency strategy. First, we installed energy-efficient air conditioning systems that use modern, low-impact refrigerants and consume less electricity, thereby reducing emissions and minimizing ecological risks. Second, we upgraded all office and warehouse lighting to LED technology, which significantly lowers power consumption, emits less heat, and reduces waste due to longer-lasting components. Together, these upgrades support our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and promoting responsible energy use across our operations.

Regular Truck Servicing

Poorly maintained trucks can lead to inefficient fuel consumption and increased emissions of greenhouse gases such as CO₂, as well as fluid leaks that pose risks to soil and water ecosystems.

To address these risks, Intermovers conducts biannual servicing of all company trucks. This proactive maintenance ensures optimal engine performance, promotes fuel efficiency, and helps minimize the environmental impact of fleet operations.

Use of Biodiesel

The use of conventional diesel in transportation contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions and accelerates global dependence on fossil fuels, undermining efforts to combat climate change.

To mitigate this impact, Intermovers has transitioned its fleet to biodiesel—a renewable, cleaner-burning fuel. This shift reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 75–85% and supports broader decarbonization goals in alignment with global sustainability commitments.

Waste Management

Reduction of Single-Use Materials

The widespread use of single-use plastics contributes significantly to environmental pollution, as these materials often end up in landfills or oceans, where they persist for centuries and harm ecosystems. Their disposal also generates greenhouse gas emissions and adds to the global waste crisis.

In response, Intermovers is actively phasing out single-use plastics across its operations—including packaging, office supplies, and employee amenities. Where possible, we replace them with biodegradable, recyclable, or reusable alternatives. Beyond internal practices, we also engage clients and suppliers to promote and adopt sustainable materials throughout our value chain, reinforcing our commitment to reducing plastic waste and supporting a circular economy.

Structured Waste Segregation

When waste is not properly segregated, recyclable materials often end up in landfills, leading to increased environmental pollution and the unnecessary depletion of natural resources. Improper disposal also hinders recycling efforts and contributes to higher operational waste footprints.

To address this, Intermovers has implemented a structured waste segregation program across its facilities. Clearly labelled bins are provided for recyclables such as paper, plastic, and glass. Employees receive training to ensure proper sorting practices, and recyclable materials are collected monthly by licensed vendors, ensuring that recoverable waste is processed responsibly and diverted from landfills.

E-Waste Recycling Program

Improper disposal of electronic waste can release hazardous substances such as lead, mercury, and cadmium into the environment, contaminating soil, water, and air. This not only endangers ecosystems and public health but also contributes to the growing global e-waste crisis.

To mitigate these risks, Intermovers conducts an annual e-waste recycling drive to ensure the safe and responsible disposal of outdated electronic equipment. All collected items are delivered to certified recycling centres for proper handling. Employees are also encouraged to bring personal e-waste from home, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility and extending the program's impact to the broader community.

Digital Transformation

Reduction of Single-Use Materials

Traditional paper-based administrative and operational systems contribute to high paper consumption, inefficient workflows, increased energy use for physical storage, and a higher risk of data loss or human error. These inefficiencies also hinder sustainability efforts and limit real-time access to business-critical information.

To address these challenges, Intermovers has embraced digital transformation across its core business functions. Through the adoption of the QuickBooks digital accounting system, we have eliminated the need for printed financial records—reducing paper waste and supporting sustainable procurement. Our payroll operations have transitioned to the Autocount system, enabling fully electronic management of payslips, tax forms, and HR records, while enhancing data security and administrative efficiency. Additionally, the implementation of the RedSky Move Management System has digitized our job orders, transportation scheduling, and warehouse coordination. This has significantly improved operational transparency, reduced reliance on physical documentation, and strengthened data protection practices across the organization.

Community Engagement Initiatives

Local Hiring and Economic Support

High unemployment and limited economic opportunities in local communities can lead to socioeconomic challenges, including reduced quality of life and diminished community resilience. Additionally, reliance on external suppliers may overlook opportunities to strengthen the local economy.

To contribute to inclusive economic growth, Intermovers prioritizes hiring from the local communities in which we operate—helping to create jobs, build local capacity, and reduce unemployment. In parallel, we actively support local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by sourcing goods and services from domestic vendors. This dual approach ensures that our business operations generate shared value and foster long-term socioeconomic sustainability within our operating regions.

Community Volunteering and Donations

Vulnerable communities often face limited access to basic resources and support systems. Without active community engagement and support, these groups remain at risk of social exclusion and hardship.

A notable example of our ongoing commitment is our partnership with Greater Action Empower Refugee Women, an NGO supporting the Afghan refugee community. Through this collaboration, Intermovers donates general used household goods and provides in-kind support by offering professional packing and transportation services. Our team has helped transport artworks created by Afghan refugee artists to exhibition centers—promoting both cultural expression and economic opportunity. These efforts reflect our dedication to creating meaningful impact and uplifting the communities we serve.

Employee Health, Safety and Wellbeing

Employee Safety

The physically demanding and field-based nature of the moving and logistics industry exposes employees to various safety risks, including manual handling injuries, slips and falls, vehicle-related accidents, and environmental threats. Without adequate safeguards, these risks can lead to serious health incidents, operational disruptions, and reduced workforce confidence.

To address this, Intermovers has implemented a comprehensive safety framework that includes compliance with Malaysia’s Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), mandatory safety briefings, provision of personal protective equipment (PPE), regular site inspections, and first-aid and fire safety training. For field operations, teams are deployed in pairs or groups, vehicles are equipped with GPS tracking, and mobile communication tools are provided to ensure real-time contact. Risk assessments are conducted before each assignment to evaluate location-specific hazards. In response to health-related threats such as COVID-19, Intermovers also enforces long-term hygiene protocols, offers flexible sick leave, and promotes vaccination among staff and their families—ensuring a safe, secure, and resilient working environment.

Employee Health and wellbeing

Limited access to quality healthcare can negatively impact employee productivity, morale, and overall wellbeing. Delays in treatment due to financial concerns or insufficient coverage can also increase long-term health risks and stress levels.

To support the holistic health of our workforce, Intermovers provides inclusive medical benefits to all full-time employees. This includes comprehensive personal accident cover, outpatient care, hospitalization coverage that extends beyond government hospitals to include private facilities—ensuring prompt access to medical treatment—and access to mental health services. These benefits are designed not only to safeguard the wellbeing of our employees but also to support their families, reinforcing our commitment to a healthy, resilient, and supported workforce.

Employee Engagement

Low employee engagement can lead to reduced motivation, poor retention, and diminished collaboration—ultimately affecting productivity and organizational resilience.

At Intermovers, we recognize that an engaged workforce is essential to driving business performance and sustaining long-term success. To foster a sense of belonging, recognition, and shared purpose, we organize regular engagement activities that celebrate Malaysia’s rich cultural diversity. This includes festive season gatherings that encourage team bonding and cross-cultural appreciation, as well as monthly birthday celebrations to recognize individual team members. These initiatives are designed to build a positive, inclusive workplace culture where employees feel valued, motivated, and connected.

Transparency

ESG Awareness Among Staff

Without proper education and engagement, employees may lack awareness of sustainability goals and their role in achieving them—leading to missed opportunities for alignment, reduced accountability, and inconsistent implementation of ESG practices across the organization.

To ensure company-wide understanding and ownership of our sustainability commitments, Intermovers integrates ESG education into the employee lifecycle. Every new team member participates in ESG onboarding, which provides an overview of our environmental, social, and governance priorities and their role in advancing them. This is reinforced through annual refresher courses and ongoing internal campaigns designed to maintain high levels of awareness, engagement, and participation in ESG initiatives across all departments.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)

Cultural Awareness and Sensitivity Training

In diverse workplaces, a lack of cultural awareness and sensitivity can lead to misunderstandings, unconscious bias, and communication barriers—ultimately impacting employee morale, inclusion, and collaboration.

To foster a respectful and inclusive work environment, Intermovers has incorporated comprehensive DEI training into its staff development programs. These modules cover cultural awareness, unconscious bias, and inclusive communication, equipping employees with the knowledge and skills to navigate diversity with empathy and professionalism. This initiative reinforces our commitment to a collaborative workplace culture that reflects and respects Malaysia’s multicultural society.

Ethical Business Conduct

Code of Conduct Refresh and Training

An outdated or poorly communicated code of conduct can lead to inconsistent ethical standards, unaddressed conflicts of interest, data misuse, and gaps in ESG compliance—ultimately risking legal liability and reputational damage.

To ensure consistent ethical behavior across the organization, Intermovers conducts an annual review of its Code of Conduct, aligning it with current regulations, best practices, and ESG expectations. The updated code is communicated through mandatory training sessions for all employees and contractors, covering key areas such as ethical conduct, conflict of interest, data protection, and sustainability responsibilities. This ensures that all personnel are informed, accountable, and equipped to uphold our corporate values.

Zero-Tolerance Policy on Corruption and Bribery

Corruption and bribery undermine ethical business practices, erode stakeholder trust, and expose organizations to significant legal, financial, and reputational risks. Without strong preventive measures, companies may become vulnerable to misconduct and regulatory non-compliance.

To safeguard the integrity of our operations, Intermovers enforces a strict Anti-Bribery and Corruption (ABC) Policy, fully aligned with Section 17A of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act and FIDI FAIM. This policy establishes clear expectations for ethical conduct and applies to all employees, suppliers, and business partners—reinforcing our zero-tolerance stance and commitment to upholding the highest standards of corporate governance.

Whistleblower Protection Mechanism

Without a secure and confidential reporting mechanism, unethical behavior and policy violations may go unreported, leading to a culture of fear, lack of accountability, and potential harm to the organization’s integrity and reputation.

To promote transparency and accountability, Intermovers has established a dedicated whistleblower platform that ensures anonymity and confidentiality for all reporters. Complaints are managed by an independent ethics committee, guided by clear escalation protocols. Whistleblower protection is guaranteed, fostering a safe environment where individuals are empowered to report misconduct without fear of retaliation.

Board Oversight and ESG Integration

ESG Oversight and Transparency

In the absence of structured governance and transparent communication, ESG initiatives can lack direction, stakeholder trust may decline, and opportunities for continuous improvement may be missed. Poor oversight can also expose the company to reputational and compliance risks.

To ensure effective governance and accountability, Intermovers has established a dedicated ESG Working Group that reports directly to the Board of Directors. This group is responsible for overseeing sustainability initiatives, monitoring progress toward ESG goals, and advising on risk mitigation strategies—ensuring ESG priorities are fully integrated into corporate decision-making.
